Legally Insane

March 8th, 2008 by Joe Ranieri

You probably all are aware that Apple released the iPhone SDK a couple of days ago.

We’ve played around with it and definitely intend on developing for it. Ryan and I are getting iPod Touches, and Jon already has his iPhone. :)

Sadly, we can’t say too much about the SDK itself, because the whole thing is under NDA. That’s right, even though anyone can download it and use it, nobody is allowed to talk about it.

Oh well, lawyers are such silly things.

Should be here on Wednesday! I admit I usually spend more time thinking about things before buying them but this one seemed like a no-brainer. Ordered a nice leather case for it too.

I’d be interested in what applications of multi-touch our readers have in mind. The iPhone / Touch require developers to throw away everything they know about interface design, but given the innovative minds that tend to write Mac software, I’m expecting some pretty clever uses. Even the sample code Apple published is pretty stunning; who came up with the idea of putting a kalimba and a level in the same device?

Of course, like many, I’m eagerly anticipating Spore for iPhone OS. I’m also looking forward to the June software update for the 802.1X support it will bring, as my campus’s WiFi is otherwise inaccessible.

The NDA may be drafted by lawyers. That it exists is Apple’s choice.
